DR. IR. EIRINI VELLIOU
Dr Eirini Velliou is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) of Bioprocess & Tissue Engineering, Principal Investigator and Founder of the Bioprocess and Biochemical Engineering group (BioProChem) in the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Surrey. Her research focus falls within the engineering and validation of novel biomaterial based in vitro platforms for studying various biological systems and diseases, i.e., cancer, stem cells expansion and differentiation, formulation and communication of bacterial communities and bacterial-host interactions.

Trained in human biology and medicine, Dr. Uwe Marx is an accomplished entrepreneur and the scientific founder of TissUse, a spin-off of the Institute of Biotechnology of the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany. Over the course of his fruitful career in biotechnology, Uwe has pursued ever more lifelike structures that can mimic human biology in vitro. Prior to founding TissUse, he was responsible for the “Multi-Organ-Chip” program at the University and was the scientific co-founder at two successful Germany-based biotechs, ProBioGen AG and VITA 34.

Marilena Loizidou is Professor of Cancer Nanotechnology and Deputy Director of the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science (SIS) at UCL. Marilena is also Head of the SIS Department at the Royal Free Campus. After her undergraduate training in Biochemistry (McMasters University, Canada), she moved to the University of Southampton where she obtained her PhD in Solid Tumour Biology and Pharmacology and became lead clinical scientist at the University of Southampton/NHS. She moved to UCL in 1993 to the academic department of Surgery, and became Head of Department in 2013.
